Olive first appeared in Syria in 6000 BC, it’s knowledge and cultivation spread to the Mediterranean in 3000 BC.  In 2000 BC the precious oil was used for anointing kings and priests as well as burning in temple lamps.  In around 1500 BC Olive oil was being sold in Egypt for cosmetic uses and in 776 BC the winners of the Olympic Games were awarded an olive branch and olive oil.
In 235 AD there were over 2200 oil distributors under the reign of Constantine.  They supplied the people with olive oil for lamps, cooking, cosmetics, massaging and body care, by 1000 AD Olive oil was used as cash.
The Egyptians used to clean themselves with olive oil long before soap was invented.  They did this by spreading the olive oil on their skin, when the dirt got stuck they would scrap it off.   The Romans used the oil to protect athlete’s skin from the sun as well as using it for perfumes, moisturizers and massage oil.

Olive oil is soothing and healing and can be used on all skin types, it is gentle and mild enough to use on babies and helps in healing burns, dandruff, bites and stings.  It is an excellentoil to use in massage oils and a great for dry hair, and can even help with hair loss.  Olive oil can be used to moisturize dry skin without blocking the pores.
